Where exactly is Pig Island?
Pig Island is the nickname of Koh Madsum, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand, in Surat Thani Province. It lies about 4 km off the south coast of Koh Samui, right next to its neighbour Koh Tan. The nearest airport is Koh Samui Airport (USM).
Which island is next to Pig Island?
Koh Tan, also spelled Ko Tan, is the next island over. Our tour page describes it as known for its coral reefs and calm snorkeling water, while Koh Madsum is the one with free-roaming pigs on its sandy beach. For reference, our tour page gives the position of Koh Tan as 9.4167°N, 100.0333°E. Most trips visit both islands in one day.
How far is Pig Island from Koh Samui?
About 4 km off the south coast. By speedboat the crossing takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes each way from the pier. We do not publish a distance from each beach or hotel to the island, because the boat leaves from a pier and the drive to it depends on where you stay: it depends on where your hotel is, and we tell you the exact pick-up time the evening before.
What is on Pig Island?
A white-sand beach with free-roaming pigs that are used to visitors, clear shallow water, and room to swim and relax. On our trip you also get kayaking with shared equipment and a Thai lunch, and the crew leave you free time on the beach before the boat returns to Koh Samui.
Can you get to Pig Island by public ferry, or stay there overnight?
According to our tour page there is no bridge and no scheduled public ferry: the island is reached only by boat. We hold no information about accommodation on the island, so we cannot tell you whether you can stay overnight.
How do you visit Pig Island from Koh Samui?
The simplest way is our shared speedboat day trip to Pig Island and Koh Tan. It runs twice a day, morning and afternoon, subject to weather and sea conditions, and takes 5 to 6 hours in total.
